Holding a Space for Another
We all have dreams deep down inside that started when we were young, and working with children everyday reminds me that they also have sparks of dreams tenderly budding. I want to remember what that feels like, and share the reassurance that truly delightful things can happen all along the journey of life. Those dreams can be big, or tiny. They can be public or sing only for one.
I wonder that we as humans can feel broken and whole, lost and found, confused and serene; that there is a ying and yang to life that knits the fabric of our unique selves. My side quest is to respect a deep connection to another person(s) with no expectations of who they should be, just admiring who they are, and protecting their dreams of their future self.
I have had this framed in my home for many years. I can’t explain why I love it. I can think of a few people who’s souls touch mine on this level, friend and family, and my side quest is to cherish that, and find more:)
There is such a thing as genuine love
which is always considerate.
It’s distinguishing characteristic is,
in fact,
regard for personal dignity.
It’s effect is to stimulate self-respect
in the other person.
Its concern is to help the loved one
become their true self.
In a mysterious way
such love finds its truest realization
in its power to stimulate the other
to attain
their highest
self-realization.
