Mimickry

Anna in rhythmic-gymnastics and really loves it. I see her randomly and sometimes watch the teacher, mimic her and the other girls in the class in order to learn, while I was filling out all the autism questionnaire for her brother.

The questions around Does your child mimic your words or behaviour? I had to search my mind for examples. I didn't find any. But I honestly didn't know I should be watching out for that.

I wish I had known earlier about the smaller things to look for, rather than the massive trial and error of shocking expectations I had that children learn from each other, or pick up cues naturally and easily… not always true. Which makes the world a much harder place to be in when you are a child trying to be you without the guardrails of observing and following social expectations.
